EVERETT, FEB. 20: The City of Everett, in partnership with Everett’s Cultural Arts Commission, invites the community to celebrate the arts and honor local award recipients at the annual Wendt and Mayor’s Arts Awards.
“Everett’s arts community is a vital part of what makes our city special. These awards give us the opportunity to celebrate the incredible talent and creativity that enrich our neighborhoods and bring people together,” Mayor Cassie Franklin said. “I encourage everyone to join us in honoring these outstanding individuals and organizations.”
The free evening will spotlight Everett’s arts community and recognize individuals and organizations whose work enriches the cultural life of the city, according to a press release from the city.
Doors will open to a pre-show social hour beginning at 6. p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave. The awards program will begin at 7 p.m.
The Everett Cultural Arts Commission is made up of volunteer commissioners appointed by the mayor who work to initiate, sponsor, organize and promote cultural and artistic programs in Everett.
Richard & Nancy Wendt Award of Excellence
Judy Tuohy will be honored as the 2025 recipient of the prestigious Richard & Nancy Wendt Award of Excellence, selected by Mayor Franklin and the Cultural Arts Commission. A longtime Everett resident, Tuohy, has served as executive director of the Schack Art Center for 32 years and as a city council member for 11 years.
“Through her unwavering advocacy for the arts, Judy has expanded youth programs and educational opportunities while also helping shape Everett’s arts and cultural scene citywide,” the city said.
Named in honor of Dr. Richard Wendt, who passed away in 2007, and his wife Nancy Wendt, who passed away in the spring of 2021, the Richard & Nancy Wendt Award of Excellence is presented annually to an individual or organization that has demonstrated unwavering support for the arts over their lifetime.
Mayor’s Arts Awards
Mayor Cassie Franklin and the Cultural Arts Commission award the annual Mayor’s Arts Awards, recognizing the art scene in Everett and honoring artists, organizations and dedicated community members who have made significant contributions to the artistic landscape.
The recipients of the 2025 Mayor’s Arts Awards are:
- The Daily Herald Photographer, Olivia Vanni
- Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Events That Benefit, Eric Jimenez
- The Dance School
- K-12 Visual and Performing Arts Instructor Tamara (Tami) Coffman
And an honorable mention to Jason and Julia Banker, owners of Covenant Art Glass.
