EVERETT, APRIL 30: Connect Casino Road (CCR) concluded its first community-wide survey about the health and well-being of 500 individuals connected to the Casino Road neighborhood in Everett. CCR will share the data in the coming months with more than 25 partner agencies and city officials, along with hosting a forum for community members to provide additional insight into the findings.

Through a partnership with Providence Institute for a Healthier Community, CCR collected responses over six weeks from people who live, work, or have another strong connection to the Casino Road neighborhood.

The 15-minute survey asked respondents about many aspects of their overall health and well-being, including financial stability and social connections or engagement within the neighborhood. CCR included tailored questions aligned with its mission to build agency and belonging in the neighborhood, such as the degree to which respondents did something positive for their neighbors or contacted a public official.

The Casino Road neighborhood is made up of a diverse population and has a history of poverty. The poverty rate in the Casino Road neighborhood is as high as 22.7% according to a study done by Local Initiatives Support Corporation Puget Sound. This is significantly higher than rates ranging from 1.6-8% in other areas of Everett.

“Not only will we compare Casino Road data to the County-wide data collected by Providence, but also we plan to run this survey in the community every 3 years, allowing us to track outcomes over time for this neighborhood in a way that we haven’t been able to do before,” CCR Assistant Director Jillian Robinson said.

Each year, Providence conducts its annual “standard” survey across Snohomish County. Providence partners with organizations to distribute surveys to specific populations, such as Casino Road. To reach hundreds of qualified respondents, CCR contracted three members of the community as “engagement ambassadors.” Ambassadors, along with CCR staff, conducted outreach during March and April.

“This survey marks CCR’s continued commitment to community engagement, advocacy, and amplifying the voice of the Casino Road neighborhood,” Director of CCR Alvaro Guillen said. “For too long, members of this community have been on the sidelines, never receiving the level of attention and investment that other parts of the city benefit from. The data we gather from this survey will guide our work and efforts to bring new resources to meet the needs of local families as well as help us tell the story of their aspirations. We also hope that it will inspire funders to join us in our vision of building a thriving Casino Road community.”
