EVERETT, DEC.9: Service at the Southwest Recycling & Transfer Station (SWRTS) is currently closed due to an explosion inside a refuse transport container as of 10:35 a.m. today, Dec. 9.
No visitors or staff were hurt during the incident according to a press release from Snohomish County Public Works.
Fire crews are currently on the scene due to heavy smoke and fumes. Solid Waste customers are being directed to the Airport Road Recycling & Transfer Station (ARTS) at 10700 Minuteman Dr., in south Everett.
“We are grateful to our quick-thinking Solid Waste staff members who helped to respond to this emergency and to fire crews who quickly responded to the scene,” said Snohomish County Public Works Director Kelly Snyder. “We are working with the fire department to determine the cause and assessing the damage to the facility. We will work to reopen the facility as soon as possible.”
