EVERETT, NOV 22: As the cost of living rises, Snohomish County residents are utilizing the Volunteers of America Western Washington’s (VOAWW) food banks for support. As needs increase, VOAWW is reporting a decline in donations.

“With VOAWW’s warehouse shelves at critically low levels, the organization is issuing an urgent call for help. If trends continue, the food bank may be forced to reduce visits from once a week to twice a month—a last-resort measure that the team is working hard to avoid, they said in a press release.

The Everett Community Food Bank,1230 Broadway, is operated by VOAWW and is the largest food bank in Snohomish County. They also have pop-up pantries on Casino Road and the Sultan Community Food Bank.

In October, the Everett Community Food Bank experienced a 56% increase in individuals served compared to October last year, VOAWW reported. This makes it the second-highest month for visitors in the past 25 years.

“As we approach the holiday season, we anticipate even greater numbers of individuals and families seeking assistance, placing additional pressure on our already strained resources, said Jessica Moore, Vice President of Development at VOAWW.Historically, this time of year sees a surge in visits as neighbors facing hardship look for extra support to provide meals and celebrate the season.”

Along with a decline in food donations, they are seeing a decrease in monetary donations VOAWW said.

VOAWW has been serving the local community for more than 125 years. They offer crisis care, housing, food banks, and other resources.
