Everett waterfront and Snohomish River dredging slated to start Oct. 16

EVERETT — Boaters are being notified that annual dredging along the Everett Harbor inside Jetty Island and into the Snohomish River on October 16, according to the the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The USACE Seattle District will oversee maintenance dredging at Everett Harbor and Snohomish River performed by the contractor, American Construction Co., Inc. Dredging will be performed continuously 24/7 for approximately 60 days, with all work concluded no later than Feb. 14, 2027. Approximately 175,000 cubic yards will be dredged. It’s expected to start in the lower settling basin via clamshell dredge and bottom dump barges. The primary placement site for dredged material will be at Port Gardner, and a secondary site will be in Elliot Bay.

The federal channel will remain open for waterway users during dredging operations. All dredge work areas, including the navigation channel and target placement sites, will be used by the contractor during dredging operations. Boats and gear that drift into the navigation channel and/or target placement/disposal areas may be damaged or destroyed.

Users are advised to slow down and pay attention to rig marking, be cautious and maintain a safe distance from all dredging equipment. Fishermen and other recreational boaters are encouraged to position themselves and their gear at least 300 feet from the navigation channel and placement/disposal areas to avoid drifting into the area used by the dredge. Noise during dredging will be minimal but can be amplified and travel long distances over water.
