EVERETT, NOV. 4: The city of Everett will be holding a community informational session to learn more about the Outdoor Multipurpose Facility Project that will replace the home for the Everett AquaSox.

The city has been exploring two different options to keep the AquaSox in Everett. Either a remodel of the current stadium, Funko Field, or building a new facility in downtown Everett.

The informational session will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Weyerhaeuser Room at the Everett Station, 3201 Smith Ave, 4th Flr.

“Baseball is an essential part of our community, and we’re committed to doing what we can to keep the Everett AquaSox here for generations to come, protecting affordable family fun while also strengthening our local economy, attracting private investment, creating jobs and growing local tourism,” Mayor Cassie Franklin wrote in a statement.

The need for adjustments comes from Major League Baseball (MLB) which has set new requirements for Minor League Baseball (MiLB). In order for the AquaSox to remain in Everett, the building in which they play must be up to the new standards.

The multipurpose facility if built downtown across from the Angel of the Winds Arena would cost up to $120 million, while a remodel of Funko Field would cost nearly $70 million, according to studies done on both locations.

Everett City Council president Don Schwab shared during a council meeting that the city is considering bringing in a professional soccer team to play at the facility.

“While the MLB put us in this position, we are choosing to look at this as the transformational opportunity it is. Opportunities like this do not come around often, so I’m advocating for us to swing for the fences and really make the most of it,” Franklin wrote.
