EVERETT, JAN. 13: The annual remembrance of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. takes place on Monday, Jan. 20. Organizations in Everett are gearing up to celebrate MLK’s life and legacy.
People’s March and MLK National Day of Service
Snohomish County Indivisible (SCI) will hold a People’s March/Sign Waving Rally in collaboration with the National Women’s/People’s March organization from 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 at the 3900 block on Broadway.
SCI and other national Indivisible groups will be supporting Martin Luther King Weekend’s Help Over Hate events, by hosting a canned food drive. You can participate by bringing canned/non-perishable food to the March/Rally.
Everett Community College
Everett Community College (EvCC) will host a food and shoe drive. The food drive will support the food pantry at EvCC, while the shoe drive will support high school and college students on campus.
“Dr. King believed that even though fighting for racial justice was important: Why does it matter if someone is able to sit at a lunch counter or not based on their skin color, if the person is not even able to afford eating there? This event is open to all EvCC students, staff, faculty, admin, and campus community!”
You can donate food and shoes from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 at CAS 102 at EvCC. Learn more here.
