EVERETT, MAY 9: Nine schools in the Everett Public Schools District were recognized for outstanding performances during the 2023-2024 school year.

Each year, the Washington School Recognition Program highlights “schools that demonstrate exceptional progress in key areas of student success.” There are three categories within the program: closing gaps, growth, and achievement. Seven of Everett Public Schools were recognized for growth and the other two for closing gaps and achievement.

While only 16% of schools across Washington earned recognition, 33% of schools in the Everett Public Schools district received the recognition.

The following schools have been honored:

  • Cedar Wood Elementary – Achievement
  • Emerson Elementary – Closing Gaps
  • Garfield Elementary – Growth
  • Jackson Elementary – Growth
  • Jefferson Elementary – Growth
  • Lowell Elementary – Growth
  • Sequoia High School – Growth
  • Silver Firs Elementary – Growth
  • View Ridge Elementary – Growth

“This recognition highlights the extraordinary work happening across our district,” Superintendent of EPS Dr. Ian B. Saltzman said. “It reflects the relentless focus our staff places on student learning and continuous improvement. I am very proud of each school community for their commitment to student success.”

The Washington School Recognition Program honors schools through the following categories:

  • Closing Gaps: Recognized for significant progress in areas needing improvement, such as assessment scores, English learner progress, or graduation rates.
  • Growth: Schools with at least one student group making some of the state’s largest annual gains in performance measures like attendance, assessments, or graduation rates.
  • Achievement: These schools have the state’s highest performance in at least two key areas, including attendance, dual credit completion, assessment scores in English language arts or math, graduation rates, or ninth-grade credit attainment, and are above average across all reportable student groups on the 2025 Washington School Improvement Framework.

Each recognized school will receive a banner from the State Board of Education, delivered in partnership with Northwest Educational Service District 189.
