EVERETT, JUNE 4: The Port of Everett has unveiled a new Marina Fuel Dock providing a fuel docking space for the region’s boating community, national defense and emergency response partners.
The Port of Everett Marina Fuel Dock opened in late May after replacing and realigning the former aging dock.
The $8.1-million marina capital investment project included upgrades to enhance the visitor experience and protect the environment, according to the Port of Everett. It will serve recreational and commercial boaters, but also those of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, City of Everett Police and Fire Departments, Snohomish County Sheriff, tribal partners and more.
In honor of National Marina Day, the public is invited to join the Port of Everett and project partners at a dedication ceremony for the new fuel dock on Thursday, June 12 at 4 p.m. on the esplanade next to Central Docks, Gate A.
“As the largest public marina on the West Coast, we serve thousands of boaters each year, and we are proud to offer them the best experience we can,” Jeff Lindhout, Port of Everett’s chief of marina operations said. “This project required careful planning and coordination with multiple stakeholders, and I want to thank our team and local partners for their patience as we made this major upgrade.”
The 500-foot fuel dock project was funded, in part, by a grant from the Department of Defense (DoD). Due to the fuel dock’s regional importance in support of DoD assets, the Port was awarded $5.3 million in grant funding from the DoD’s Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation to help offset the cost of the project.
The Port of Everett has invested more than $165 million in Marina upgrades over the past 20 years. Built-in phases over 50 years, the Marina is being modernized by addressing aging infrastructure and growing demand.
The new dock features two additional fuel dispense nozzles, an ultra-high flow fuel station, a fuel attendant building, concessions and ice building and a fully equipped single-stall restroom.
In addition to standard pumpouts, the project added a commercial pumpout station. This commercial pumpout station is one of the only publicly accessible commercial pumpout stations in Puget Sound.
The fuel dock replacement was completed in two phases. Phase one began in 2023 with the installation of two 30,000-gallon fuel tanks for gasoline and diesel. The new tanks increased fuel capacity in response to a growing need.
The second phase began in the summer of 2024 when Port contractor American Construction Company demolished two docks in the Central Marina to make way for the new facility. American Construction Company, and its subcontractors rebuilt the fuel dock just east of its former position to accommodate the strong currents. The former fuel dock is being refurbished to serve as additional guest moorage to meet growing visitor demand. The Port will add vending options and signage to the new dock soon.
