EVERETT, JAN. 31: With snow in the forecast this weekend, the Everett Public Works Department and Snohomish County are gearing up for the winter weather.
The Puget Sound has a few warnings and advisories for the upcoming weekend. The mountains are currently under a Winter Storm Warning according to the National Weather Service office in Seattle/Tacoma.
For the lowlands in areas such as Monroe, Maple Valley and Enumclaw, a Winter Storm Watch advisory is in place. Heavy snow is possible in these areas with an accumulation between two and six inches possible.
Snohomish County and public works crews have been working to prepare for if and when wintery mix hits the ground.
“We are monitoring the weather – public safety is our number one priority,” Public Works Director Kelly Snyder said in a statement. “We have enough salt, sand, and mixed products available for several days of addressing snowy and icy roadways and we can replenish our supplies as needed. Plus, the county’s fleet division is ready to replace plow blades and perform any needed equipment repairs.”

For Everett, expect a mix of snow and rain throughout the night. On Saturday, Feb. 1 expect wintery mix in the morning, which will turn into rain in the afternoon. Saturday night snow showers are expected with accumulation less than a half inch.
On Sunday, Feb. 2 there will be snow showers before 1 p.m. then rain and snow showers for the rest of the day. New snow accumulation is less than a half of inch. Sunday night expect snow after 7 p.m.

- Visit Everett’s Inclement Weather Updates webpage at everettwa.gov/inclementweather for City updates and additional resources.
- Call Public Works dispatch at 425-257-8821 to report trouble spots on the roads.
- Increase the distance between you and other cars on the roadway to allow for time to make adjustments. No sudden turns or braking.
- Give snowplows room to move, and keep parked cars off the road so they can clear to the curb.
- Wet snow is heavy! Be cautious of falling trees/branches and heavy, wet snow accumulations on roofs.
- As the weather warms back up, clear blocked storm drains of snow and ice to help manage surface water and prevent flooding.
