EVERETT, MARCH 17: Calling all movie buffs. Mark your calendar for the 25th year of the Everett Film Festival. The festival is taking place on April 5th and 6th at the Everett Performing Arts Center.
The Everett Film Festival was a vision started in 1997 by a group of women with the firm belief that the time had come for Everett and Snohomish County to experience quality films from around the world in a festival setting here at home.
From that original belief the Everett Women’s Film Festival was born. The festival was and is still dedicated to highlighting the strength, humor, and creativity of women with thought provoking and entertaining films.
As it grew, the festival came to embrace more than just films by women, but also to present movies offering insight into various cultures, times and experiences from a woman’s perspective. And so, in time, the name of the festival changed to the Everett Film Festival.
Even though the festival name has changed, it continues to showcase engaging and thought-provoking films from here at home as well as around the world offering a unique look into the lives of women through documentaries, feature films, animations and film shorts.
This year we even have an Oscar among the many outstanding films being showcased. The film “I’m Not a Robot” won the award for best live action short film and is a look at what happens when you can’t pass the computer security questions proving you are in fact a human. I know I can’t always find all the boxes with the lights or read and the retype correctly the squiggly line of text with a mix of numbers and letters that confuse the eye and mind. What happens next? You can find out at the festival. This and several other outstanding films will be featured this year.
Other films being shown include “Echoes of the Sound” by local filmmakers Emma and Annie Stafki, showcasing a real event in their family history from right here in the pacific northwest about the capture of a young orca in the sound.
A full list of all the films and movie details are on the website for the festival at EverettFilmFestival.org.
See you at the movies!
