APRIL 13, NORTH SOUND: The Transportation Choices Coalition, Snohomish County Transportation Coalition (Snotrac), and the Build the Damn Trains coalition will host the next in a series of Transit Town Halls, “The Future of Light Rail in Snohomish County” on Tuesday, April 14th in Everett.
This will be an opportunity for the public to hear directly from Sound Transit staff and Board Members about the work the agency is doing to close a $34.5 billion budget gap on its long-range plan. Tuesday’s Transit Town Hall at Everett Station will feature Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers and Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin, and it will be moderated by Brock Howell of Snotrac. Future Transit Town Halls are scheduled for April 27th in Tacoma and May 5th in Seattle.
Sound Transit is facing increased costs to build, operate, and fund its system over 25 years due to rising construction costs, inflation, and revised revenue projections. In response, the agency has launched the Enterprise Initiative, a process to examine how to restructure or scale back parts of the system to close that gap. At a Sound Transit board retreat in March, board members were presented with three approaches that illustrate the trade-offs of delaying or deferring various projects. Now, they’re engaging with the public.
