It’s not very often that we get to see a number one team play; and it’s even more seldom that we get to see a number one team play that’s from within our own area. But that’s what we have Friday night; as the Arlington Eagles will be hosting the Class 3A number one ranked team in the state of Washington, the Marysville Pilchuck Tomahawks.
The game at John C. Larson Stadium in Arlington is important, not only in the Western Conference 3A North Division, but this game has state-wide implications as well.
You can’t see it on the backs of those white Marysville Pilchuck High School jerseys; but it’s there, plain as day; a big huge target has been hung on the backs of every single Tomahawks player. Now every Class 3A, maybe even a couple of 4A schools, are now looking up at the loftiest state ranking in the history of the Marysville Pilchuck program. Arlington should prove to be the toughest test for the Tommies; although they boat-raced Glacier Peak and Ferndale earlier in the year; and those were supposed to be a challenge for MP, they weren’t. We’ve become familiar with the players to watch for MP; leading the way is Dylan Carson who has racked up 1152 yards on 83 carries (13.9 yds/carr.) and has scored 23 touchdowns. But, Dylan will be, and has been, the first to credit his offensive linemen for opening the holes up front; anchored by Nate Elwood. He also happens to be the son of the coach.
As much as Marysville Pilchuck likes to keep the ball on the ground; throw those thoughts out the window if you’re the Arlington Eagles; and if you need somebody to throw things; we have the guy for you: Trent Nobach. Nobach is the three-year starting quarterback for the Arlington Eagles. Besides being a power forward on Nick Brown’s Arlington basketball team; and a nearly scratch golfer on the Eagles’ golf team; Nobach has put up some lofty passing numbers: in 6 games played, he’s gone 108/154 for 1560 yards and thrown for 21 touchdowns. Levi Younger has hauled in nearly half of those TD tosses with 10. Running back RJ Gese has 6 TDs rushing. The only loss for Arlington was back in week three, losing to Ferndale 18-17.
While Marysville Pilchuck has taken all 6 games to running clock; Arlington has only done it three times.
