Perseids Meteor Shower Watch Party

Those looking to enjoy a peaceful evening under the sky can find themselves in good company at a Darrington stargazing party Aug. 13. Astronomy appreciator and volunteer with Friends of North Mountain Tyller Boomgaarden says the day’s new moon will enhance viewing because dark conditions highlight the meteors’ visibility.

The event will be held beneath North Mountain Fire Lookout, a volunteer-restored fire tower at the summit of North Mountain.

Organizers advise the following:

• Bring a comfortable lawn chair, preferably one that reclines and stays in place.
• Plan to arrive at the lower parking lot of North Mountain (Darrington North Mountain Trailhead Parking) and arrange to share/pool your vehicle space as space may be limited.
• Arrive after eating.
• This is not a telescope-focused event, but attendees are welcome to bring their own telescope or camera.
• Volunteer-led shuttle transportation to the summit will be available.
• To keep the event accessible and friendly to all, leave dogs at home.
