NORTH SOUND — Mountain snow arrived in the North Cascades with the latest weather system, expected to bring 4″-8″ inches to Stevens Pass, according to forecasts. Drivers are reminded to be prepared for winter driving conditions across Highway 2 and State Route 20 but WSDOT cameras show Stevens Pass is bare and wet in spots with slush next to the wheel tracks of traffic.

5:30 PM Radar Update: A line of showers is moving off of Whidbey into Snohomish/southern Skagit Counties this evening. Main concerns will be the potential for a lightning strike and some ponding with the brief downpours.

More snow will likely fall in the North Cascades than the Central Cascades.
Step (briefly) aside, El Nino! Western Washington has its first mountain snow alerts of the season! Could see 4-8″ at Stevens Pass into Wednesday and 1-3″ at Snoqualmie Pass. Bulk of the snow tonight.

WSDOT snowplows are already deployed on I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass.
Our crews are out plowing snow as the first hint of winter hits the mountain passes. If your plans take you across the passes today, pls make sure to have a good set of traction tires and slow down. Did you know putting chains on your tires makes them traction tires? Yep! https://t.co/np05WfTgrK
