LYNNWOOD — A 44-year-old mother is facing first degree manslaughter domestic violence charges in the death of a 2-year-old child, allegedly connected to a fentanyl over-dose in November 2022.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office reports, “After the lengthy investigation, including the completion and review of laboratory and toxicology testing and the medical examiner’s findings, the Prosecutor’s Office filed charges for first-degree manslaughter domestic violence.” The woman was arrested yesterday in the 23010 block of Hwy 99 in Edmonds and was booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
Nearly four years ago, “Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit detectives were called to a Lynnwood residence on November 12, 2022, after deputies responded to reports of an unresponsive child. Deputies performed lifesaving measures before the child was transported to Swedish Hospital in Edmonds, where he was pronounced deceased,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.
During the investigation, detectives determined the child had been in the care of his mother the evening before and the morning of his death. Investigators also recovered suspected fentanyl, suspected heroin, and drug paraphernalia from the residence. The investigation continued for several months and involved numerous search warrants, the collection and processing of a large amount of forensic evidence, laboratory testing, toxicology testing, and an autopsy conducted by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner.
In July 2023, SIU detectives referred charges to the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office for first-degree manslaughter domestic violence. The three-year interim before yesterday’s manslaughter arrest, according to the SCSO, involved waiting for additional forensic results to be confirmed and case work like warrants to be completed before the Prosecutor’s Office filed formal charges resulting in the arrest.
