SNOHOMISH COUNTY, DEC. 18: The 2024 Annual Homeless Memorial Vigil will honor and remember those who have lost their lives while experiencing homelessness, with an emphasis on veterans.
“As our nation grapples with challenges related to affordable housing, the opioid epidemic, and numerous barriers to secure housing, this gathering becomes increasingly significant,” a press release from Snohomish County Human Services said.
The program will feature a remembrance of all who have died on Snohomish County streets, as well as a special veterans’ salute to those who have served.
The event is hosted by The Snohomish County Veterans Homelessness Committee, which is a veterans assistance program operated by the County Human Services Department.
The event will begin at 5:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at the outdoor amphitheater on the County Campus, 3000 Rockefeller Ave.
“It [The event] serves as a somber reflection on the lives of individuals who have passed away while facing the harsh realities of homelessness – whether on the streets, in vehicles, in shelters, or in any improvised place they could find rest,” the release said.
The program will also include the presentation of the American flag by the Everett High School JROTC color guard, as well as prayers from Chaplain Mike Riley with Support 7.
“The Snohomish County Veterans Homelessness Committee welcomes the entire community to stand together in solidarity, remembrance, and commitment to addressing the critical issues surrounding homelessness. Your presence and support will make a difference as we strive for a community where everyone has a place to call home,” the release said.
