REDMOND — Microsoft 365 users struggled through e-mail service interruptions to start the work week as the software giant from the east side of Lake Washington updated customers about their troubleshooting efforts via social media.
Just before 8:30 a.m. PDT, Microsoft 365 users began posting service interruption reports and experiences on social media. According to Downdetector, reports of Outlook problems spiked sharply at 8:16 a.m. PDT, jumping from around 37 reports to over 6,000 in a few minutes. Downdetector is a website that aggregates real-time user problem reports and social media metrics to give immediate updates to the breadth and impact of service interruptions for thousands of online apps and platforms.
As the complaints rippled across social media, Microsoft’s 365 status team began informing users how the service interruption was being addressed.

- Microsoft Defender XDR: Security monitoring and threat protection portal slowdowns.
- Microsoft 365 Admin Center: IT administrators faced trouble logging in or performing management tasks.
Losing connectivity when you’re expecting to have instant access is the double-edge sword of our reliance on technology and the speed at which it helps us work or create for our own personal satisfaction.
One Microsoft 365 user was trying to take the service outage in stride with this post about renaming the widely used software bundle…

sorry, but it’s kind of unacceptable that our Outlook service has been down for nearly a full business day.
