EVERETT, AUG. 21: The Evergreen State Fair begins today, Aug. 21, at the fairgrounds in Monroe. The fair runs through Labor Day, Sept. 1, with the exception of Wednesday, Aug. 27.

The weather for the start of the fair this weekend and into next week could not be more perfect, leaving late last week’s summer soaker in the rearview mirror. Everett-Paine Field received nearly four-tenths of an inch, while areas in the Cascade foothills had over an inch of rain. Monroe itself got 1.05 inches of rain.
Now, dry weather, sunshine and warmer temperatures are in store. Higher pressure aloft is forecast to build over the region through the weekend, offering wonderful fair weather.
On Thursday’s opening day, high temperatures in Monroe are expected to peak near 80 degrees. This weekend, temperatures have a good chance to climb to near 90 degrees.
The warm to hot temperatures are anticipated to continue early next week with readings ranging from the mid-80s to near 90 degrees.
Given the sunshine and quite warm temperatures, it will be important to attend the fair with the following precautions. The potential for dehydration and sunburn will be elevated.
Be sure to drink plenty of water. UV radiation will peak each day between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Use plenty of sunscreen of at least 30 SPF, wear a wide-brim hat, and seek shade as much as needed.
