EVERETT, JAN. 30: Everett Police officers arrested Andrew Freeman yesterday, Jan. 29 in connection with the stabbing of a teen that took place nearly two weeks ago.

Officers arrested Freeman around 4 p.m. yesterday, according to Everett Police, with the help of a community member who notified 911 of his whereabouts. He was arrested without incident.

“The community plays such an important role in public safety; I encourage our residents to stay informed, be observant and ensure they know the proper channels for reporting both emergency and non-emergency situations,Mayor Cassie Franklin said in a statement.

Freeman will be booked into the Snohomish County Jail for Assault in the 1st Degree.

On Thursday, Jan. 16, a 13-year-old boy was stabbed near the 2500 block of Broadway on his way to school.

According to an email sent to North Middle School Families, the student walked onto campus with apparent stab wounds. The school staff proceeded to call 911 and provided care to the student. Police arrived around 8 a.m. and thoroughly searched the area with a K9 unit and drones.

During this time both Everett High School and North Middle School went under a precautionary lockdown. The lockdown ended at 10:30 a.m.

At that time the victim was in stable condition at Providence Regional Medical Center.

Using a photo taken from a nearby camera, police were able to share an image of the possible person of interest. The suspect was first described as a Black male, approximately 5-foot-10 inches.

On Monday, Jan. 20 police identified the person of interest to be Andrew Freeman.

According to records from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Bureau, Freeman was arrested at 9:21 a.m. on Thursday, Jan.16, just after the stabbing, for possessing a controlled substance. He was arrested by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. 

Freeman was released at 2:14 p.m. the following day, Jan. 17. 

Community members and neighbors expressed concern over public safety in the city as Everett Police continued to look for the suspect.

A meeting led by Everett Chief of Police John DeRousse shorting after the stabbing tried to reassure the neighbors in North Everett of their dedication to finding the suspect and their commitment to public safety. 

The January stabbing is the third major incident involving a teenager since November 2024, according to KOMO News. 

As to why the teen was stabbed, it is still unclear.
