Our KRKO Russell & Hill Female Student Athlete of the Month for February 2022 is Alivia White, junior wrestler at Marysville Pilchuck High School. Alivia is a two-time state champion in girls wrestling; winning titles at 190 lbs in 2022 and previously at 190 lbs in 2020. (Due to the pandemic, there was no Mat Classic State Wrestling Tournament in 2021). White is only the third Snohomish County female to win two wrestling state championships; she is hoping to become the first ever three-time champion next year when she is a senior. Congratulations to our KRKO Russell & Hill Female Student Athlete of the Month for January 2022, Keira Marsh, senior basketball player at Arlington High School. Keira led the Eagles to a Third Place Trophy at the Class 3A Girls Basketball State Tournament at the Tacoma Dome. She was a starter for Arlington when they also placed third at the 2020 state tournament (no state championships were held in 2021). Congratulations to our KRKO Russell & Hill Male Student Athlete of the Month for January 2022, Tijan Saine, senior basketball player at Mariner High School. Tijan helped lead Mariner to their first outright Wesco boys basketball title since 2003 and first trip to the Tacoma Dome since 2009. He averaged 16.7 ppg in 2022, and led the team in assists (6 per game) and steals (3 per game) while being named to the second team All-Wesco team. Our KRKO Russell & Hill Female Student Athlete of the Month for December 2021 is Snohomish senior basketball player Ella Gallatin. Ella led the Panthers to a 4th Place finish in 2022 Class 3A Girls Basketball State Tournament at the Tacoma Dome. She was also a freshman starter on the 2019 Panther team that placed 4th at the state tournament. Our KRKO Russell & Hill Male Student Athlete of the Month for December 2021 is Jackson junior basketball player Sylas Williams. The 6' 6" junior was named First-Team All Wesco 4A for 2021-22 while he averaged 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Timberwolves. Sylas led Jackson to an 8-1 record in the month of December; their only loss was a 3-point defeat to Curtis, the team that would go on to win the state championship.
